LEARN
ABOUT RINGTONES
What are Ringtones?
A ringtone
is simply the tune that plays on your cell phone handset when
someone calls your mobile phone.
Rather than the traditional ring, or the phone
manufacturer’s default ringtone, you can now personalize your
ringtone and choose for yourself what plays each time your phone
rings.
Ringtones
are a lot of fun because they let you personalize your mobile
phone experience. Through
a unique ringtone, you can quickly identify when your phone is
ringing. You don’t
have to play the same tune as everyone else and you won’t have
to grab for your phone like everyone else in the room when a cell
phone starts ringing.
Almost
every popular song under the sun can be purchase as a ringtone.
Ringtones are so popular that they even have their own
charts.
Many cell phone providers display a top 10 list of the most popular
ringtones on their web site.
To take
advantage of ringtones, you do have to have a ringtone-compatible
mobile phone. Most of
today’s phones are ringtone-compatible.
To find out for sure whether your phone can receive and
play ringtones, you can do one of a few things:
check the manual that came with your phone, search for your
phone’s make and model on a ringtone provider web site or
contact your cell phone provider.
Having and
using ring tones is not complicated.
They can be downloaded onto your cell phone as simply and
as easily as it is to add a contact to your mobile phone.
In most cases and with the majority of providers, ringtones
will be sent directly to your handset whenever you purchase them.
Every cell phone provider has a unique way for you to order
ringtones whether by text ordering or ordering through their web
site online. Also, if
you have a cell phone account that also gives you Internet access
you will have the option of downloading ringtones directly from
the Internet onto your phone.
Mobile phone manufacturers create phones with differing
sound capabilities. The
most up-to-date cell phones will play ringtones in super tone or
real (true) sound. With
real sound, tunes sound just like the original song with all
instrumentation audible when played.
Previously though and on older phones, the sound options
were monophonic and polyphonic.
Monophonic
phones were limited to playing one single note at a time.
